Se compara frecuentemente con el síndrome del túnel carpiano en la muñeca, ya que ambos involucran compresión nerviosa en un espacio confinado. Sin embargo, el TTS es mucho menos común que el síndrome del túnel carpiano.2

El síndrome del túnel tarsiano posterior (PTTS, por sus siglas en inglés) es una forma de neuropatía por atrapamiento debido a la compresión del nervio tibial o de una de sus ramas terminales dentro del túnel tarsiano en el tobillo medial.2
